This is a region blessed by plentiful sunshine, cool afternoon breezes, and wonderful soils. One of the oldest agriculture and grape growing regions of California, it was thought of as a bulk wine region for decades, but the potential to make fine wines from the grapes grown in this region is becoming more obvious with each season. What started in Lodi mostly with the region's ability to produce Zinfandel wines of unbelievable depth of flavor and complexity has moved into a large range of wine varietals and styles including Petite Sirah, Barbera, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon, to name just a few. Clarksburg, the closest to the bay's cooling breezes, has been best known for its Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Petite Sirah and Tempranillo. These regions are continuing to grow and are becoming increasing popular as wine tourist desitinations.
