The Winery:
The 100 acres estate is situated at the far south end of the Clarksburg AVA on Andrus Island. This region is closer to the San Francisco Bay influence and is therefore the refreshing breezes and cloud influence sooner than some areas further north or east of the Bay. The estate was established in 2003 and the first wines were produced in 2004.
|
The Vineyards:
There are 56 acres of Chardonnay at the estate and 27 acres of Merlot. The Merlot is being budded over to Viognier, Grenache, Petit Verdot, Pinot Gris and Petite Sirah to create wines that represents the distinctiveness of the Andrus Island terroir.
|
The Wines:
California Cellars produces an unoaked Chardonnay, a luscious, spicy Viognier as well as a plump, ripe fruit Merlot. The winery has plans to create an estate Grenache and Petite Sirah in the near future.
|
The Winemaker:
The winemaker at California Cellars is Bill Dryer. Bill began his career working for Sterling Vineyards in Napa and continued on to be become a wine consultant in the wine regions in Napa, Sonoma and British Columbia.
