The Winery:
Estate established in 1870s as a watermelon farm, later adding 273 acres of vineyards. Twin brothers Randall and Bradford Lange purchased 246 acres from their father and created a vineyard management company and now own vineyards in four counties in Northern California.
The Vineyards:
The vineyards of Lange Twins extend into four California counties; San Joaquin, Sacramento, Solano and Yolo and three distinct growing regions; Lodi, Clements Hills and the Delta Regions. The Lodi vineyard produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel. The warmer Clements Hills vineyards produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel. The vineyards in the Delta Region, which is known for its cool morning and afternoon sea breezes, are planted to Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir.
The Wines:
Lucas Winery was the first winery to market his wines under the Lodi AVA back in 1970s before Lodi had earned its appropriate place as a fine wine region. The winery produces 100% varietals from select vineyards and highlights the specific qualities of terroir that make the vineyard special. The estate philosophy of winemaking is to discover the vineyard’s true character and express it in the wine.
The Winemaker:
David Akiyoshi, a graduate of University of California, Davis is the winemaker at Lange Twins. Prior to Lange Twins, he had 25 years of winemaking experience at Robert Mondavi and was the Director of Winemaking at Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi.
