The Winery:
The estate for Vino Con Brio is surrounded by 21 acres of vineyards and the Amorosa Inn and Gardens, a beautiful bed and breakfast inn. This is a family operation, with wife Renae Matson running the bed and breakfast, husband Mike the vineyards and daughter Anne the Winery. The grounds are masterfully landscaped with massive weeping willows, roses, manicured gardens, lawns, and the vineyards sweeping off into the distance. |
The Vineyards:
There are three vineyards under the control of the estate: Karma Vineyard with 160 acres located at the north end of the Lodi AVA, Amorosa, which has 21 acres of primarily Italian and Rhone style grapes, and Locust Tree Vineyard that has Old Vine Zinfandel vines that were planted in 1943. |
The Wines:
The estate bottles wines under the Matzin label for their ever popular Old Vine Zins from the Locust Tree Vineyard. These are wines that are almost black in color, a testament to their deep flavors and great body. They also offer several Rhone style wines and a unique wine made from the South African grape, Pinotage. |
The Winemaker:
The winemaker at Vino con Brio is Paul Wofford. Paul is a graduate from Fresno State College with a degree in Geology and classes in Enology. He has worked for several wineries around the state, such as Zaca Mesa, Martin Ray, Bargetto and works as a consultant to many smaller wineries in the Santa Cruz area as well as operating his own Winery in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, Wofford Acres Vineyards.
