The Winery:The Phillips family has been farming the estate land in Lodi since the 1860s where they started with 160 acres. They were vegetable farmers who soon began planting wine grapes. Their wine grapes grew in reputation across the country as Prohibition set in and many home winemakers in the east purchased Lodi grapes to make their own wine. The estate is now operated by 5th generation brothers, Michael and David Phillips. The winery operates a roadside café, tasting room and farmer’s market off Highway 12 just east of Highway 5. Miramont Estate Vineyards - Linden, California

The Winery:
Miramont Estates is located near the town of Linden east of Stockton in the rolling countryside of the lower foothills.  The estate, established in 1997, is owned and run by there generations of the Pechan family.  The tasting room is in the barrel room of the winery and has some great celestial pictures on the wall that was used in the making of the incredibly beautiful wine labels.

Oak Ridge Winery- Lodi, California

The Winery: This is a really fun tasting room to visit in the Lodi region.  Tasting is actually done in a transformed redwood wine holding tank that dates to the end of Prohibition.  The tank had a capacity of 49,429 gallons and makes a really great size and shape for a tasting bar, done in brick, great mode lighting and those beautiful redwood walls.  The winery itself was founded in 1934 and was purchased by the Maggio and Reynolds families, themselves multiple generation grape growers in the region, in 2002.  The winery has some great events, like wine appreciation classes, car shows and cooking classes, so check with them to see what’s coming up. The Winery:The owners of the Olde Lockeford Winery are also the owners of the Vino Piazza Winery Plaza.  This is a great facility with nine wineries, a bistro and a snack shop.  The tasting room for the Lockeford Winery is especially impressive with its museum quality fossils and fossil reproductions.  This is a great spot to spend time tasting some of their great Lodi wines and exploring their exhibits.  There are also some very great gift and gourmet food stuffs for sale in the tasting room.

What followed was a family affair that has lasted over a century with this generation adding a new twist, making wine from the estate grapes.
