The Winery:
Jonathan and Cathy Wetmore started as vineyard managers for over 2000 acres of Lodi AVA grapes. Since they knew the grapes of the area, and which represented the best of the Lodi region, they decided to try making a little Zinfandel wine in 2000. It went so well that the couple opened their own winery in 2002.
The Vineyards:
The Wetmore’s personally farm all the vineyards where they purchase the grapes for their wines, assuring the growing practices meet the style and quality needs of their wines. All the grapes used in Grands Amis wines come from the Lodi Appellation.
The Wines:
All of the wines in the Grands Amis portfolio are made from Lodi sourced grapes. The Wetmores hand bottle, cork and label each of their bottles of wine to ensure the personal touch comes through in the wine. The winery makes a very unusual Bordeaux blend that is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Petite Verdot giving the wine a great deal of structure, earthiness and spice.
The Winemaker:
The winemaker at Grands Amis is South African native, J.C. van Staden. He utilizes a combination of traditional old world and inventive new world techniques in the production of the Grands Amis wines.
