The Winery:
The winery at St Amant was founded by Tim Spencer, a local Lodi celebrity, in 1981.  Located in a small industrial area in east Lodi, the tasting room sits in the barrel aging room and where the winery offers tasting of their award winning wines and ports.  The cellar room proudly displays the numerous awards won by the small winery.
The Vineyards:
The 30 acre vineyard for the St. Amant Winery is actually located in the Amador AVA, near the town of Jackson. The site is surrounded by Comanche Lake, Lake Pardee and Lake Amador, which keeps the estate much cooler than the surrounding foothills. That cooler temperature makes this the perfect spot for the Portuguese varietals that the Spencer family grows there.  The family decided to take a lesson from the Portuguese, and pick the grapes at a much lower Brix than is common in California.  The result is a port style wine with just the right amount of acidity balanced to the sweetness.
The Wines:
If St. Amant is known for any wine it would be their incredible Port style wines made with the traditional Portuguese grapes: Touriga, Tinta Cao, Tinta Roriz, Alvarelhao and Souzao.  The grapes are made into wine separately and then blended after fermentation is complete.  These are incredibly well made wines that have just the right amount of acid, sugar and alcohol in perfect balance.  They also make a delightful Tempranillo (known as Tinta Roriz in Portugal) with great color and elegant flavors.
The Winemaker:
The winemaker at St. Amant is second generation winemaker, Stuart Spencer. Stuart is also the Program Director for the Lodi Woodbridge Winegrape Commission.
